Circumstances

It was February 12, 2014, in North Miami, Florida. Noemi Gonzalez shared a duplex at northwest 136th Street and northeast 4th Avenue with her adult son Her son last saw her at 2:00 A.M. as she was sleeping in her bedroom. When he woke up at 8:00 A.M., his mother was gone. Her bed was unmade, which isn’t typical of her behavior. And the front door was unlocked. There were no indications that she had made coffee. This is what she usually did after waking up in the morning. Gonzalez left behind her purse, keys, cellular phone, and medication. And she has never been heard from again. The police brought in a bloodhound to assist with a search. But the dog was unable to pick up a trail.

Noemi Gonzalez had previously worked as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and school crossing guard. But at the time of her disappearance, she had retired. She has relatives in New Jersey and New York. Her family members describe her as a highly organized person. And they stated that she had never disappeared before. And it would be uncharacteristic of her to leave the house without her belongings. Furthermore, it was unlike her to leave without telling anyone where she was going.

On June 4, 2017, a family member posted on the Facebook page set up for her.

Noemi’s family attended and shared her story at the Missing in NJ event on 5/20/17 at Rutgers University. There were families present that have found their missing loved ones and other families, like ours, that are still searching. Meeting and speaking to those families painfully reminded us that there are thousands of missing persons in the US and that we are not alone in this situation. We pray for all those families still searching and for our beautiful Noemi. Noemi’s picture was part of a special candle vigil at the end of the event. We thank the New Jersey State Police for coordinating this first ever Missing in New Jersey event and allowing our family to be a part of it. Please continue to pray for Noemi and our family.
