Ciehanoski’s mother reported her missing on February 14. She didn’t do it sooner because Ciehanoski had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and had left without warning before.

Three weeks after Mandy Marie Ciehanoski’s disappearance, her ex-boyfriend, Michael Joseph Annicchiarico, was arrested. He was charged with giving false information to law enforcement about her disappearance.

He at first claimed he hadn’t seen her in two years, then admitted to having been with her as recently as December 2010. Video surveillance footage taken on February 2 showed them together, and at last Annicchiarico admitted to having been with Ciehanoski on the day of her disappearance. She had visited his home in the 600 block of Arroyo Parkway.

Ciehanoski’s mother stated her daughter was “terrified” of Annicchiarico and that he was “obsessed” with her. Also, she stated that he had threatened her life. She had planned to marry another man and Annicchiarico was angry about this. She planned to confront him about sexually explicit pictures of her that he’d sent to her fiance. Ciehanoski’s fiance broke up with her after he saw the photos, and she was very upset about it.

When investigators searched his apartment, they found a pair of rubber gloves and a sheet stained with Ciehanoski’s blood, and photos of her with a note saying “If I can’t have you, no one will.”

Around the time of Ciehanoski’s disappearance, Annicchiarico allegedly stole two saws from his boss. He then tried to persuade his boss not to press charges and offered to give him his late father’s white two-door 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, which had Ciehanoski’s blood and hair inside it.

Annicchiarico didn’t own the vehicle and had no authority to transfer the title. In addition to giving false information to law enforcement, he was charged with grand theft, forgery and illegally transferring a motor-vehicle title. A photograph of the Chevrolet Cavalier is posted with this case summary.

In October 2011, Annicchiarico was charged with first-degree murder in Ciehanoski’s case. He was already incarcerated at the time, awaiting trial on the charges from February. Prosecutors stated that in addition to the physical evidence they had, Annicchiarico allegedly admitted the murder to a cellmate.

In July 2014, he pleaded no-contest to second-degree murder. A no contest plea doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges sufficient evidence exists to ensure a conviction.

Annicchiarico offered to lead authorities to Ciehanoski’s remains. He did this on the condition that he get a 15- to 50-year sentence. He said he’d put her body in a wooded area in southern Flagler County, north of Ormond Beach.

Investigators followed his directions but found nothing; as a result, according to the plea arrangement. Annicchiarico was sentenced to life in prison for the murder.

Mandy Marie Ciehanoski left behind a teenage son. Her body has never been found, but foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
