Even among children of color, missing persons searches are unequal. The search for Jeanine Camille Barnwell is in stark contrast to that of Relisha Rudd. Multiple agencies, including the FBI, have participated in investigating the disappearance of Relisha Rudd. Multiple Facebook pages have been set up and videos have been made. And she has garnered national attention. Many photos of her have been released to the public. Jeanine Camille Barnwell has had none of this attention, concern, or resources. She has been missing for over 34 years. I never knew about her case until I found it in a Internet search! All we have on Jeanine is that her mother saw her last and that foul play is suspected. And we have only two photos. Jeanine Camille Barnwell deserves better than this. We know nothing about her family. But somewhere along the way, someone let Jeanine down, maybe to the point of death. Is anyone searching for her?
