Opinion

There are many missing person cases where mental health issues are involved. Because those accused of violent crimes often use the “mental illness” defense, it has made the stigma of mental illness worse. The media seldom talk about mental health except in the context of preventing violent crimes. We normally hear about the mentally ill except in crime cases. And it is feared that this has a negative effect on missing persons searches. Many missing persons where mental health issues are involved, often never are found. Or they are found deceased. In one missing case, a person asked in a comment, “Is he dangerous?”
