Over the years, several news articles from several publications stated that Amy disappeared on Tuesday, January 3, 1984. At that time, missing person reports were taken. They were maintained on paper, not punched into computers as they are today. Two reports were filed for Amy. Her sister and her roommate filed reports. Two separate officers took the reports. Amy Marie Matthews was considered a possible victim of Jack Lee Colin. He killed his parents in 1972. And he is a suspect in the murders of several women. Colin lived only a few blocks from the beauty school at the time Amy was a student there but investigators have been unable to definitively connect him to her disappearance and presumed murder.

Foul play is suspected in her case, which remains unsolved.
