Suspect’s Criminal History

Timothy Bindner is a married sewage treatment plant worker. Law enforcement became aware of him when he began sending birthday greetings to young girls in the East Bay area. One child’s parents contacted authorities. They handed over a letter that Bindner had written to their daughter. The note was printed backwards and could only be deciphered by holding it up to a mirror. Bindner claimed that the girls were “lonely” and so he composed and sent the notes out of kindness.

Other Victims

Timothy Bindner also visited Angela Bugay’s gravesite. It is located in Oakmont Cemetery. Angela was a five-year-old who was abducted and murdered in Antioch, California. This was in the year 1983. Bindner was never considered a suspect in her murder. Another man has been arrested in that case. For many years, Bindner was also considered a suspect in the June 1988 disappearance of Amber Swartz-Garcia. She is from Pinole, California. Bindner approached many of the mothers of missing girls from the East Bay area offering his assistance. This included the families of Amber and Michaela.

More Bindner Probes

Investigators hoped to see if the girls’ cases were connected. So they asked Amber’s mother to keep up a “quasi-friendship” in order to learn more about him. She and authorities agreed that Bindner Bindner appeared to be playing mind games with the victims’ loved ones and the authorities. Many people reportedly theorized that he enjoyed taunting families into thinking that he may be involved in the presumed abductions. Once Bindner was once arrested for harassing two little girls whom he tried to lure them into his van. But the charges were later dropped.

Bindner Obsession with Children

Timothy Bindner often drove around in a light blue Dodge van. It had a license plate that said “Lov You.”Many pictures of children wallpapered the insides of his van. Bindner refers to himself at a “good Samaritan.”
Linda Golston was a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News. Bindner asked her to interview him at Oakmont Cemetery at 4:30 A.M. He played his favorite song on her car stereo, “Jesus, Here’s Another Child to Hold.” Bindner told Goldston that he thought of the missing girls as “his children.”

Prediction?

Linda Golston asked Timothy Bindner how he believed the abductions he was being quested about, happened. He said that one child was submissive. But another fought back against her attacker. Bindner added that he was “guessing” about how the girls reacted. He wrote a letter to a police agency in the late 1980s. He stated that he believed the next girl would be abducted from the area. And he stated that she’d be nine years old. Michaela disappeared shortly thereafter, and she was nine years old.
